Foodies will relish their stay in Nice, as this southern French city offers a dizzying array of mouth-watering Mediterranean specialities which can be savoured on cafe terraces, in the markets or in the city’s many delicatessens.
The reputation of “cuisine nissarde” has been established over the years by dishes such as Pan Bagnat (typical sandwich), salade niçoise, farcies (stuffed vegetables), pissaladière (onion tart), tourte de blettes (Swiss chard tart), etc. - but the most famous of all is undoubtedly Socca.
This Niçois speciality is a pancake made with chickpea flour, water and olive oil. The city boasts many great places to sample an authentic socca, but the Hotel Brice Nice recommends “Chez Pipo” in the port area. This is the only restaurant which uses a wood-fired oven - so the socca are crispy on the outside and wonderfully creamy on the inside!
